The service

The wood your hands are on.

Railings, handrails and cappings are the wood you hold every time you move around the deck. They take the sun, the salt and the knocks, and they are the first thing people notice when they step aboard.

We build new railings and handrails to fit, and repair or refinish the ones you have: teak cappings, trim and exterior details. Pieces are made in the workshop and fitted on board, at your berth.

What's included

  • New railings and handrails built to fit
  • Repair and refinishing of existing trim
  • Teak cappings and exterior details
  • Fitted on board, at the berth

Our work

Exterior details, finished properly.

Wooden cabin window frames, sealed and cleanly edged in tape. On the exterior every detail shows, so that's how we treat them.

When to call us

Is this what your boat needs?

Wood shows wear long before it fails. These are the signs we look for on an inspection: tick the ones you recognise and they go into your message, so we know where to start.

What to send us

  1. The whole area, from a few steps back
  2. Close-ups of the worst spots
  3. The boat's model and where it's berthed

Photos are enough for a first opinion, before anyone comes to the boat.

The process

How the job goes, step by step.

The same people measure, build and fit. That's how we know every slat and every seam.

  1. Inspect and measure

We look at what is there, check the fixings and measure or template the pieces.

  2. Make in the workshop

New parts are shaped from solid wood to follow the boat's existing lines.

  3. Fit on board

Pieces are fitted at your berth and sealed where they meet the deck.

  4. Finish

Sanded and finished to match the rest of the exterior woodwork.

Where it's done

Made to measure in Split, fitted on board.

Railings, handrails and trim are shaped in our workshop to measurements taken on your boat, then fitted and finished at your berth.

Our marine carpentry workshop in Split

In our own workshop in Split we make everything that doesn't have to be built on board: synthetic teak panels, passerelles, handrails and wooden accessories. Boats don't come here, but you are welcome to drop by, see samples and talk the job through.

FAQ

What owners ask us most

Straight answers to what owners ask us most. If yours isn't here, ask us directly.

Can you copy an existing piece?

Yes. We take a template, or use the original as a pattern, and make a new piece to match.

Repair or replace?

If the wood is sound, a repair and a new finish are usually enough. If it is cracked through or rotten around the fixings, a new piece is the safer choice. We will tell you which after a look.

Is the work done on the boat?

Fitting is done on board, at your berth. Larger pieces are made in the workshop first, so time on the boat is kept short.

Which wood is best for boat handrails?

Teak is our first choice for anything that lives outside, because it lasts in salt and sun. Iroko, mahogany and oak are good alternatives, depending on the look you want.

How much do new handrails or railings cost?

It depends on the length, the wood and the shape of the pieces. After a look at the boat, you get a written quote with the full price.

Do you make teak cappings and trim?

Yes. We make and fit teak cappings, trim and other exterior details, and repair and refinish the ones already on board.

How do I keep wooden handrails looking good?

Keep the finish intact. A light sand and a fresh coat of varnish before it starts to crack keeps the wood protected far longer than waiting until it peels.
